Community Composting - rural pilots
With funding from the CLLD Fund in 2025 we are in the process of setting up three pilot projects across the D&G region.
These pilots have been chosen to run in three very different rural locations and settings:
- Gatehouse of Fleet
- Moniaive
- Whithorn
These pilots are to explore the possibilities of community composting in rural areas.
Practically they are to enable these communities to find a way of dealing with their food waste and be able to capture the resource which is produced.
The funding will allow these groups to buy and have access to high quality food waste digestors and with additional funding from the Scottish Community Alliance’s fund, local residents of Dumfries and Galloway (D&G) visited community composting sites in East Renfrewshire and Glasgow in September 2025 to start the learning journey!
If you would like to find out more and be involved in a local pilot project near you, please get in touch with the project leads.
